Photographer's Note

Having posting some photos of Coimbra, I had to post this cliché, probably the most famous one of the city, the courtyard of the university.

Like I have written in other posts, the University of Coimbra is the oldest in Portugal and one the oldest of the world, its official foundation having occurred in 1290. Much of what can be seen now results from the reconstructions of the late 15th and early 16th century, when the place that was until then a royal palace was given to the university. The building on the right still houses the rectory and the one in front still houses the law faculty.

You can read some more about the place and its history on the note of my last post.

Perhaps I should have tried correcting the perspective. In fact I did, but I was disappointed with the results, so I gave up.
