Photographer's Note
I took this picture near the village of Artemida where 23 people died during the recent fires in Peloponnisos,Greece. I was in the area those days spending my holidays, as my father's village Milea is very near (see my previous TE post) and Artemida is actually my mother's village.
well, here's the story behind the photo:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=478363&in_page_id=1811
-- now an important note about the image itself:
I shot 3 NEFs of the scene (no manipulation there,of course) and tonemapped them lightly in Photomatix. I then adjusted contrast, resized, sharpened and posted the photo. nothing else.
this spooky brownish tone was the original tint of the land and the air those days and anyone who was in the area can prove that.
the problem is that when i uploaded on TE a similar photo from the very same place a couple weeks ago, shot again for HDR and treated exactly the same like this one, it was removed by TE officials as "violating the TE rules of service" for "excessive post-processing". I replied explaining my procedure, which in fact complies to these Terms (http://www.trekearth.com/terms.php , #3) but i got no answer.
i believe it was 'reported' by someone who had never been in a similar situation to know what it really looks like ;)
thank you.

Hello Kostas,
It does look otherworldly, but I still can't understand why anyone would complain for excessive processing here. That aside, you have captured the tragedy with an image of great impact. Excellent piece of photojournalism. Regards,
Hakan

Hi Kostas,
We have all heard about the fires this summer, your photo comes to remind us that and show the disaster it leaves afterwards, I do not think your PP is overdone but thanks to the microcontrast boosts it certainly contributes to give your photo a more dramatic impression, I like the result a lot.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

The tragedy of the fire was expressed very well. The composition is wonderful, and the way of lighting is very skillful.
Offering a silent prayer for the souls of the victims.

Hi Kostas,
I guess the problem was and is that with this kind of process it's hard to say whether the impression is because of apocalyctic conditions after fire or strong processing. Nevertheless one of the most artistic and hard to forget scenes on this forum. And a sad story behind it. Strong sharp contrasts combined with uniform ash colours. Any chance to see one of originals as a WS?
To the favourites.
Edit: OK, I saw the picture behind the news link.

Hi Kostas
I just saw a link to this one in the forum, and i must admit that i was amazed when i saw it!
It is great!! I can understand why someone could have thought that it was because of post processing:)
So detailed and with all the burnt brownish colors.
Great stuff

Hi Kostas
This photo is so dynamic with the burnt cars so well placed and the framing is perfect. That tipped up truck is so striking Your HDR treatment really brings out the textures so well.
