Giotto's Bell Tower
It was an effort to reach this point, 440 steps I think.. I was here 2004 and I climbed the the tower you see with equal effort but only had 2mp camera back then. Now I have DSLR and the Grad filter I held to the lens, the onlookers with their p&s looked puzzled "what's this fellow doing". The wife held on to my feet as I made my way down the roof of the great Duomo...Only kidding, LOL
(From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) ... Giotto’s bell tower (campanile) stands on the Cathedral square (Piazza del Duomo) in Florence, Italy. This bell tower is one of the showpieces of the Florentine gothic style. Standing isolated next to the Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore and in front of the Baptistery of St. John, this splendid construction attracts the eye and the admiration of every art lover by its design, rich sculptural decorations and the many-coloured marble encrustations.

It's great fun to climb to such perches to get your shot. This feels like an Olympic ski-jump slope launching you right into the heart of the city. Not a standard postcard photo.

Very unsual and interesting shot! The inclusion of the roof, stretching away before us at the bottom of the frame gives this a sense of place or context that most panoramic photos don't have. The view is of course magnificent, and the graduated filter helps to show us that very interesting sky. Great work!

Fantastic shot, Stephen, the wide angle lens and the "low" POV doing wonders, what a foreground effect! Unusual and a bit vertigeous... :)
Cheers
