Photographer's Note
A long and stuttering absence from TE.
New job and location this year has been a blessing with new things to shoot - though I mostly shoot school events (not allowed to post those)
This past week I went to Chiang Mai with a group of students and made sure to take a few postable shots that didn't include our students.
During their stay - my students spent a day at what was billed as an orphanage - but in reality was a school run by the local temple for both orphans and poor kids from the surrounding hill tribe villages. Only about ten percent of the kids were orphans, but they all enjoyed the day with visiting students.

Hi Mark,
A lovely image...however, it does look a little "un-naturally" smooth. Did you put it through neat image or something?
What I love is the perfect geometry within the shape of the girl and the way she has her hands. The light is lovely, as is the limited yet eyecatching colours.
~I might have been tempted to tale a little more off the top and leave slightly more room to her left...however, this is just my personal preference.

Poetic shot, with little girl between the black hole of the orphanage and the white line of the balcony. I like it!

bonjour marc,
quelle superbe photo, graphique, très structurée, le sujet ou plutôt le bas de la photo se dégage d'une façon magique

Hi Mark, how are you mate? A very nice composition with the opposition of that huge black shape with the red scarf. I have only one question really - did you apply any noise software to the skin, or did it come out naturally smooth like this - only think that bothers me a bit.
Cheers,
Francis

Mark: compositionally superb - a fine, textbook crop and compo. But your model here is very unaffected. This shot shows a great eye. regards, c

Bonjour Mark,
Superbe composition !

Nice one Mark. Simple, but effective - I like the stark black and white sections, and her faraway expression. The red scarf gives a welcome splash of colour and focus point to the image. You've captured her with great sharpness.
Cheers

Welcome back, Mark. This is a great shot to return with. I like how you put the girl low in the frame so she appears vulnerable. Usually a big blank black space would be a bad thing, but not in the right situation, like here, where it makes the girl look alone, with that worried look she has. Nice color accent with the scarf. Maybe you removed a bit too much noise--it's slightly unnatural looking, but not enough to detract. Regards, Ken.

Wonderful capture. I love the expression on your subject's face, lost in thought and ignoring the photographer. The splash of red, of course, makes it wonderful. Nice to see what my camera can do in the right hands. ;)

Hi Mark,
Great and lovely composition. The exposure must have been really hard to set with both the white wall and the dark background.
Be that as it may, the result is perfect.
Well done,
Damien.
