Good to take a step back sometimes when one gets jaded of the traveling life to remember what fascinated you with travel in the first place.
Sure - to those who have traveled in Asia numerous times, there is nothing more touristy and fake than an elephant ride as part of the three day hill tribe trekking package. Chiang Mai has made a healthy living staging reality for visitors.
It may not be the daring exploration you dreamed of as a child but meeting a mahout is something we don't get at home.

Nice compo, Mark, gutsy, engaged. Tones are a tad dark on my screen but maybe that's the quality of my screen here in the office ;o)
